OBJECTIVES
The department will accomplish
its mission by:
- Developing curricula that provide appropriate
theoretical knowledge and practicalskills to the students.
- Preparing prospective graduates for various
career opportunities in private and public sectors as well
as self employment.
- Departmental participation in agricultural
development through teaching, research and extension.
- Collaborating with relevant institutions
PROGRAMME
B.Sc HONOURS
IN CROP PRODUCTION & HORTICULTURE
In order to be awarded a degree a student
must pass in the following areas:
a) Practical work
b) Module work
c) Formal examinations
d) Industrial farm attachment
The distribution of marks for the overall degree rating will
be as stipulated in the faculty regulations.
In all semesters formal examinations account for 60% of the
total assessment. 40% will be continuous assessment broken
down as: 5% - practicals, 10% assignments, 25% tests.
Overall degree classification will be determined by specifications
in the Faculty Regulation
ADMISSION
REQUIREMENTS
Prospective candidates should have at least five ‘O'
Levels with good passes in English Language, Science and Mathematics
and at least two ‘A' Level passes in Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry or Biology. Alternatively, admission may be granted
to candidates with a Diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture
from recognised institutions. However, this is subject to
recommendation by the departmental chairperson, based on the
performance of the candidate in the diploma module.

PROSPECTS
After completing
the programme graduates will be open to the following opportunities;
Private Sector:- Agronomists, Horticulturists, Plant Breeders,
Crop Protectionists, Sales
Representatives, Farm Managers, Consultants, Researchers
Public Sector:- Researchers, Extensionists, Lecturers
Self Employment:- Farmers, Consultants
