MIDLANDS STATE UNIVERSITY

B. VISITING SCHOOL (BLOCK RELEASE).
FACULTY OF ARTS.
   1.B A. (Hons) in Development Studies. – 3 years.
   2.B.A (Hons) in Theology and Religious Studies – 3 years.
   Applicants for 1 and 2 must be holders of a Diploma, HND or related qualification in any of the above disciplines.

FACULTY OF COMMERCE-

   1.  B Comm.  Accounting (Hons) –3 years.
   2.  B Comm.  Business Management (Hons) – 3 years.
   3.  B Comm.  Marketing Management (Hons) - 3 years.
   4.  B Comm.  Insurance and Risk Management (Hons) - 3 years.
Applicants for 1 -  4 must;     

  • Have at least 5 ‘O’ level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Be holders of a Diploma, or HND or any related qualification in any of the above disciplines.
  • Be employed in a field related to the above disciplines.
  • Have at least two years working experience after attainment of a Diploma or Higher Diploma.
  • Submit confirmation letter of employment from the employer.

5.  B Comm. Economics (Hons) - 3 years.
   Applicants must have any of the following; 

  • Diploma in Statistics/Education
  • Institute of Bankers Diploma.
  • HND/ND in Businesses Studies/Accountancy/ Purchasing and Supply/Marketing/Computers.
  • Institute of Administration & Commerce (IAC).
  • Institute of Personnel Management of Zimbabwe (IMZ).
  • Diploma from the Institute of Real Estate.
  • Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) Diploma.
  • Diploma in Business Administration (ZIM).
    Or    ‘A’ level passes plus Proof of Employment.

6.  B Comm   Banking and Finance (Hons) – 3 years.
    Applicants must have any of the following;

  • Diploma in Banking and/or Finance from any recognized institution.
  • Institute of Bankers in Zimbabwe (IOBZ).
  • HND/ND In Business Studies or Accountancy or Computers.
  • HND/ND in Institute of Administration and Commerce (IAC).
  • Diploma in Business Administration (ZIM).
  • Diploma from the Institute of real Estate Agents.
  • Diploma in Education or in Mathematics or in Statistics.

  • OR A’ level passes.
  • At least two years work experience in relevant field and submit proof of employment.

7. B Comm  Tourism and Hospitality  Management (Hons) – 3 years.
    -Applicants must have:  - Diploma in Tourism or related fields.

FACULTY OF EDUCATION.
   1. Bachelor of Adult Education Degree (3 years-Block Release).
   2. Diploma in Adult Education Degree (2 years- Block Release) or (1 year Full- Time).

Entry requirements for 1 and 2:

  •  Applicants must be currently working in the fields of, Agriculture, Health, NGOs, Security,  Commerce, Education, Adult Literacy Organisations, Development fields.
  •  Have a Diploma (for 1.) in Adult Education. OR, 5 ‘O’ level subjects (for 2).
  •  Have experience in the occupation or discipline area in which they teach adult learners.

3. Bachelor of Education Degree (2 years-Conventional).

Subjects on offer are:  Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, English, Geography, Fashion and Textiles, History, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, Food Science and Nutrition and African Languages.

4. Bachelor of Education Degree (3 years – Block Release).

Subjects on offer are:Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, English, Geography, Fashion and Textiles, History, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, Food Science and Nutrition, African Languages and Educational Foundation.

      Entry requirements for 3 and 4.
      Applicants must:-

  • Have a teaching qualification approved by the University.
  • Have an ‘A’ Level pass in the proposed teaching subject.
  • Normally be employed as a full-time teacher in an approved school or college or doing appropriate educational work.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
5. Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education Block –Release (3 years)/Full Time(2 years)
  • Applicants should have a Certificate/Diploma in ECD or Infant Education or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
6. Bachelor of Education in Leadership and Management Block – Release (3 years).
  • Applicants should have a relevant Diploma from a recognized Institution.
7. Bachelor of Education Degree – Computer Science (2 years –Full Time).
            Applicants must:-
  • Have at least 5 ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Be a holder of a diploma in Education with Computer Studies as main subject.
  • Be a holder of a Diploma in Education and a recognized qualification in Computer studies.

8.  Department of Applied Education 
TRAIN AS A SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHER AT MIDLANDS STATE UNIVERSITY

Diploma in Education (Secondary)- 3 years,  Full Time

Applications are invited for admission into the above programme at Midlands State University for the July 2011 Intake.    Applicants are advised to contact the Admissions Office for additional information.

1.         Entry requirements
An applicant must have-

  • Passed 5 “0” Level subjects  including English language
  • Obtained grade C or better in Mathematics for Accounting, Commerce, Geography and Sciences.
  • Subjects on offer- Accounting, African Languages, Commerce, Economics,  English, Fashion and Textiles, Food and Nutrition, Geography, History and Religious Studies.

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES 

1.B Sc. Local Governance Studies (Hons) - 3 years.
2 B Sc Human Resource Management (Hons) – 3 years.
3 B Sc Psychology (Hons) – 3 years.
4 B Sc Music and Musicology – 3 years 

Applicants for 1, 2, 3 and 4 must have;   

  • Have at least 5 ‘O’ level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Be holders of a Diploma, or HND or any related qualification in any of the above disciplines.
  • Be employed in a field related to the above disciplines.
  • Have at least two years working experience after attainment of a Diploma or Higher Diploma.
  • Submit confirmation letter of employment from the employer.
FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
1. B Sc Information Systems (Hons) – 3 years
  • Have at least 5 ‘O’ level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Be holders of a Diploma, or HND or any related qualification in any of the above disciplines.
  • Be employed in a field related to the above disciplines.
  • Submit confirmation letter of employment from the employer.
2.   Bachelor of Science Telecommunications Honours Degree-Visiting School (3 years)
An applicant must have-

  • A pass at ‘A’ Level in at least two of the following subjects or their equivalents

Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science/Studies.

  • And at least two years working experience in the relevant fields (Proof of employment required)

OR

  • A national Diploma (HEXCO) or City and Guilds Diploma in Telecommunications, Radio and Radar, Applied Physics, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Studies, or Equivalent Qualifications.
  • And at least two years working experience in the relevant fields (Proof of employment required)

FACULTY OF NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND AGRICULTURE-
B Sc. Natural Resources Management and Agriculture (Hons)-3 years.                                           
Applicants must have: 

  • have at least 5 ‘O’ level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
  • be holders of a Diploma, or a Higher National Diploma or any related qualification in any of the above disciplines.
  • be employed in a field related to the above disciplines.
  • have at least two years working experience after attainment of a Diploma or Higher Diploma.
  • submit confirmation letter of employment from the employer.
C. POST GRADUATE DEGREES AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES.
FACULTY OF ARTS.

1.Master of Arts in Development Studies – (18mths).

  • Applicants should have Honours degree in History and Development Studies and Economic History or related fields.

2. Master of Arts in African History – (18mths).

  • Applicants should have Honours degree in History/ and Development Studies and Economic
    History or related fields

3. Master of Arts in African Languages and Culture –Block Release (18mths).

  • Applicants should have Honours degree in African Languages or related fields.

4. Master of Arts in African and Diasporan Literature (18mths).

  • Applicants should have a good Honours Degree in English and Communication or related fields

5. Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies – Block Release (1½years).

  • Applicants must have any first degree.

6. Master of Arts in Cultural Heritage Studies. - Block Release. (2 years)

7. Master of Arts in Archaeology. - Block Release. (2 years)

8.Master of Arts in Museum Studies. - Block Release. (2 years)

Entry Requirements for 6, 7 & 8.
Applicants must have a good honours degree in any of the following; Archaeology, Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies, History, History and Culture, Anthropology, Ethnology/Ethnography, African Languages and Culture, Folklore, Visual or Fine Arts, Art, Education, Art Curatorship or related disciplines.

FACULTY OF COMMERCE.

1. Masters in Business Administration – Block Release (2 years)

      Entry Requirements.

  • Be at least 25 years of age.
  • Be a holder of at least a second class degree or its equivalent awarded by Midlands State University or any other recognized institution.  A holder of a third class degree or its equivalent may be admitted only after providing evidence of academic maturity in the desired field of study as shall be judged by Faculty Post Graduate Studies Committee.
  • Have at least (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Provide two references from reputable people certifying their ability and suitability to undertake the programme successfully.
  • Submit a statement of purpose, stating why they would like to pursue the MBA programme.
  • Submit a research proposal on a dissertation topic of their choice which has to be at least five (5) typed pages.
2. Executive MBA (EMBA) – Block Release (2 years)

         Entry requirements.

  • Be at least 40 years of age.
  • Be an Executive of their own business or has been a manager for at least ten (10) years. 
  • Hold at least a diploma from a recognized institution in a recognized area of study.
  • Be required to provide two references from reputable people certifying their ability and suitabilityto undertake the programme successfully.
  • Undergo an interviewing process conducted by the Faculty Post Graduate Studies Committee.
3. Master of Commerce, Accounting – (18mths).
  • Applicants should have an Honours degree with specialization in Accounting with a degree class of 2.1 or better, and confirmation of employment from the employer

4. Master of Commerce, Economics – (18mths).

  • Applicants should have an Honours degree with a specialization in Economics.

5. Master of Commerce, Strategic Management and Corporate Governance – (2 years).

  • Applicants should have an Honours degree in Management, Accounting, Human Resources Management and /or other tertiary qualification approved by the department.

6. Master of Commerce, Marketing Strategy – (18mths).

  • Applicants should have a good Honours degree (1st or upper second) in Marketing, Business Management or their equivalents or any other degree plus an appropriate professional
    qualification (e.g. IMM, CIMA).

7.Master of Commerce in Tourism and Hospitality Management - ONLINE

  • Applicants should have an Honours degree with a specialization in Tourism or related fields.

FACULTY OF NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND AGRICULTURE.

1.Master of Science in Crop Protection - Block Release (2 years)
-Applicants should have a good honours degree in Agronomy or Horticulture or Crop Science or related fields from a recognised university.

FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.
1.  Master of Science in Information Systems.  - Block Release (2 years)
2.  Master of Science in Ecological Resources Management. - Block Release (2 years)
3.  Master of Science in Food Science and Nutrition. -  Block Release (2 years)

- Applicants must be holders of an Honours degree in the relevant discipline.

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES.

1.   Post Graduate Diploma in Media and Society Studies. - Block Release (1 year).

  • Applicants must be holders of any first degree.

2.   Master of Science in Media and Society Studies – Block Release (1½ years).

  • Applicants must be holders of a good Honours degree in Media and Society Studies or related fields.

3. Post Graduate Diploma in Safety, Health Environmental Management. Block Release – (1 year)
            Applicants must.
  • have at least 5 ‘O’ level passes including English and Mathematics.
  • have a good first degree in appropriate fields such as Geography and Environmental
                - studies or Science/Biology or Health Sciences

4. Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. Block Release – (1 year)

  • Applicants must be holders of any first degree.

5. Post Graduate Diploma in Students Management.   Block Release (1 year)

  • Applicants must have a good first degree in appropriate fields such as Sociology, Education or related field. 

6. Master of Science in Student Management.      Block Release (18 months)
  • Applicants must have a good first degree in Psychology.
  •     OR
  • A first degree in other relevant area plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Student Management.

FACULTY OF EDUCATION.

1.   Post Graduate Diploma in Education – (PGDE) 1 year – Full-Time.
Applicants must:

  • have an acceptable and relevant degree.
  •  have a minimum of 2 years full time working experience in Education.

2.    Department of Adult Education. - Post Graduate Diploma in Tertiary Education (3 semesters)-Block-Release

  • Applicants should have a good first degree from a recognized University

3. Master of Education in Fashion and Textiles – Block Release (2 years)
            Applicants must have:

  • completed a minimum of 2 years of approved educational work.
  • obtained a B.Ed degree or approved equivalent from any recognised University OR
  • obtained a degree and or a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from a recognised University.

4. Master of Education degree – Block Release (2 years
            Options on offer are:- Sociology of Education, Philosophy of Education,
            Educational Psychology, Educational Management, Curriculum Studies.

            Applicants must :

  • Have an acceptable and relevant first degree plus a Post Graduate Diploma   in Education.
  • Other equivalent degree holders may be admitted.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years full time employment in education.

BRIDGING PROGRAMME
The Bridging Programme is meant to assist candidates with Science subjects, who fail to meet the University minimum entry requirements of 2 ‘E’s at ‘A’ level. Candidates who passed at least one science subject at ‘A’ level and score ‘O’ level passes in other subjects, may apply to undergo a 3 months intensive ‘A’ level equivalent Bridging Programme. Students who complete the Bridging Programme successfully would then enrol for the degree programmes of their choices in the Faculty of Science and Technology or in the Faculty of Natural Resources Management and Agriculture. Students who fail ‘O’ level Mathematics, may also undergo an intensive ‘O’ level equivalent Bridging Programme in Mathematics for them to qualify for the degree programmes in the sciences.

How to Apply
Complete an official application form, which can be obtained from the Admissions Office at Midlands State University upon payment of US$20 for Zimbabwean applicants and US$50 for foreign applicants in the normal application category.  Application forms can also be downloaded from this website, (www.msu.ac.zw ). The completed form should be accompanied by an original deposit slip of the Application fee (US$20) or by a receipt from the bursar’s department (MSU).  The Application fee should be deposited in the University’s CBZ ACCOUNT (Gweru branch) 01820772520046. Applicants may alternatively send their money by registered mail. Cheques, Telegraphic Transfers and money orders will not be accepted.
