Introduction
The Residence Department is a unit of the Division of Student Affairs charged with the responsibility of student accommodation and welfare both on campus and off campus as provided by Rules of Student Conduct and Discipline Ordinance, 2000, Ordinance No2.The department is led by the Director of Residences. It has, at the moment, one full time warden directly responsible for students who do not reside on campus. The department also has ten part time wardens, from the current members of the teaching staff and non teaching staff who are responsible for each of the twelve halls of residence.
Services
While the halls of residence and private homes provide individual students with sleeping quarters and opportunities to pursue their academic endeavors; each warden carries out student programmes and services that enable the student to train and learn outside the classroom making the department supportive of the university’s mission that commits itself to “…teaching and training by means of flexible packaging….for the immediate and ultimate benefit to humanity”.
The department’s activities are guided by Midlands State University vision “to be a unique, developmental-oriented, pace setting and stake-holder driven university that produces innovative and enterprising graduates.”
Vision
The Department of Residence contributes towards the MSU vision by ever striving to improve the living standards of our students who reside both on and off campus.
Mission
The Department acknowledges the commitment of the MSU mission to the enhancement of people’s lives by fostering friendly and diverse residential communities that create a sense of belonging to the University, to the city of Gweru and to the country.
Values
The Department seeks to instill in students and staff values of honesty, hard work, innovation empathy, responsibility, accountability, respect for other people and giving to the community.
