The duties and responsibilities of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor are grouped into 5 main categories which are:

(a) Teaching – the incumbent is expected to teach or deliver lectures in accordance to the Department and or Faculty guidelines and standards.

(b) University Service and Community engagement– the incumbent should participate in all Department, Faculty/School and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others.

(c) Research – the incumbent is expected to engage in active research in his/her area of specialization which benefits both the students and the University.

(d) Innovations – leading to tangible products and services 

(e) Industrialisation –through commercialisation of products

FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS     

Post C: Technician (1 Post)

Qualifications and experience 

• An Honours degree in Applied Mathematics and Computational Science, Applied Statistics or related from a recognized institution with at least a 2.1 pass.  
• Must have knowledge and/or experience in the use of major statistical and mathematical packages like R-software, MATLAB, Python, Mathematica and Maple.

Duties and Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will be responsible for, among other duties:

• Managing and maintaining the Department’s computer laboratories and computing equipment.
• Installing, configuring, and maintaining statistical, mathematical, and actuarial software packages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB and other specialised software).
• Providing technical support to academic staff and students during practical classes, research activities, and examinations.
• Maintaining laboratory equipment, computers, printers, networking devices, and audiovisual equipment.
• Assisting in the procurement, inventory management, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and consumables.
• Supporting the setup and maintenance of departmental servers, databases, and online teaching platforms.
• Providing technical assistance during departmental seminars, workshops, conferences, and outreach activities.
• Maintaining accurate records of equipment, software licences, maintenance schedules, and laboratory usage.
• Performing any other duties as assigned by the Chairperson of the Department.
