The duties and responsibilities of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor are grouped into 5 main categories which are:

(a) Teaching – the incumbent is expected to teach or deliver lectures in accordance to the Department and or Faculty guidelines and standards.

(b) University Service and Community engagement– the incumbent should participate in all Department, Faculty/School and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others.

(c) Research – the incumbent is expected to engage in active research in his/her area of specialization which benefits both the students and the University.

(d) Innovations – leading to tangible products and services 

(e)Industrialisation –through commercialisation of products

FACULTY OF EDUCATION  

Department of Educational Foundations, Primary Education and Pedagogy 

Post: ECD Teacher (2 Full Time Post) 

Qualifications

  • Master of Education Degree in Early Childhood Development and Child Protection.
  • Bachelor of Education degree in Early Childhood Development and Child Protection with at least a 2.1 pass
  • Diploma in Primary Education or its equivalent 
  • A minimum 3 years Teaching experience in the relevant field. 

Competencies & Responsibilities

  • Curriculum and Instruction: Plan and implement a research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum that fosters cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth, using play-based learning and inclusive practices for children of all abilities.
  • Health, Safety & Hygiene: Supervise children at all times, maintain sanitation standards, and assist with routines like meals and diapering.
  • Observation & Assessment: Conduct ongoing observations to assess each child’s progress, using data to inform instruction.
  • Classroom Environment: Create a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment that encourages exploration.
  • Family Partnership: Build collaborative relationships with families through regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and shared goal-setting.
  • organising and taking learners for field excursions
  • Administration: Maintain accurate child records, manage classroom supplies, and assist with accreditation paperwork.
  • Professionalism: Maintain strict confidentiality and engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Policy Compliance: Adhere to all university, centre, and relevant national/state early learning standards.
  • Attend to any other duties as assigned by the principal officers from time to time
