Gweru, Zimbabwe – Midlands State University (MSU) welcomed high school learners from across Zimbabwe to its annual Open Day on 31 July 2026, where the theme, “The Next Chapter: Shaping Your Destiny with MSU,” set the stage for a day of exploration, discovery and informed career choices.

Delivering the welcome remarks on behalf of the MSU Acting Director of Marketing and Communications, Mr. J. Bhowa, the MSU Acting Communications Manager, Mr. M. Magwarada, encouraged learners to embrace the occasion as an opportunity to discover their potential and gain first-hand insight into university life.

“Today is more than an opportunity to tour our campus and facilities; it is an invitation to discover possibilities, explore your potential and begin envisioning the next chapter of your academic and professional journey,” he said.

Learners also received detailed guidance on admission requirements and application procedures for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies from Mrs. C. Masukume, Principal Assistant Registrar – Admissions.

The programme was enriched by insightful presentations from the University alumni, including Mr. K. Tambaoga, Managing Director of Fundhouse Finance; Dr. B Parirenyatwa, MSU Lab Technician in the Department of Applied Biosciences and Biotechnology; and Mrs, D. Mamombe, Managing Director of Dibcon Group of Companies, who reflected on how MSU shaped their academic journeys, professional growth and career success.

The session also featured Mr. I. M. Muteb, the MSU Students’ Representative Council Minister of International Affairs, who highlighted the University’s inclusive learning environment, global outlook and vibrant student experience.

Closing the formal proceedings, MSU Marketing Manager, Ms. L. Rubatika, invited students to take the opportunity to explore the University’s academic programmes, facilities and diverse opportunities available at MSU.

“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today, and we hope this experience will show you that Midlands State University is ready to help you achieve your ambitions,” she said.

With the formal programme complete, learners toured exhibitions mounted by all Faculties and engaged with lecturers, researchers and current students while exploring laboratories, learning centres and specialised teaching facilities across the campus.

The exhibitions also featured the MSU Research and Innovation Division and the MSU National Language Institute, giving visitors a glimpse into the University’s commitment to research, innovation, industrialisation and the preservation of indigenous languages.

For many learners, the experience offered a new perspective on university education, with a prospective student from Fletcher High School, Ishmael Changara, describing the Open Day as both inspiring and enlightening.

“I have learnt that MSU is not like any other University; it is not only a place to learn academics but also to learn how to interact with people and exist in the world,” he said.

The 2026 Open Day reaffirmed MSU’s commitment to empowering future generations by providing an education that combines academic excellence, innovation and real-world experience to prepare graduates for meaningful careers and national development.
